Happymodel OVX300 VTX
Happymodel OVX300 VTX
My Review
The Happymodel OVX300 is a standard among whoop racers and freestyle pilots. This VTX is fairly lightweight while maintaining a somewhat larger PCB, which I believe might be the reason it doesn't overheat as fast as other VTX's. While this has never been a concern for me, I do know that some people don't like the smaller solder pads on this VTX. The main issue I have with this VTX is that it lacks a 5v and GND passthrough for the camera. This normally isn't an issue, but since the most popular flight controllers today don't have dedicated 5v and GND pads for a camera, it's convenient to have a VTX with those extra pads. This isn't a dealbreaker and lots of people use these VTX's on their pro racing builds, myself included, but it would be convenient to have them. What I really like about this VTX is the fact that it uses OpenVTX, which is open source and highly configurable VTX firmware. If there's ever a problem with an OpenVTX VTX such as this one, it can often times be fixed by tuning output power or reflashing the firmware. This usually isn't necessary, but it does mean that, on the off chance you get a VTX that wants to behave a little funny, it's fixable, which isn't the case for other brands!
From Happymodel
The Happymodel OVX300 VTX is based on the Open source project OpenVTX powered by JyeSmith (EpxressLRS team)
OpenVTX aims to provide firmware with both the SmartAudio and Tramp protocols. Either protocol can be used on the flight controller and on VTx power up the protocol used is automatically detected by OpenVTx.
